FAQ: How do I create and embed a map on my wiki?




Google Maps


NOTE: You will need a Google account in order to use Google Maps. To sign up for a Google Account, go to Google, select Sign in from the top navigation bar, click on Create an account now.

  1. Go to Google. Select Maps from the top navigation bar.
  2. Click on the My Maps tab and then select Create a New Map.
  3. Next, using the Title and Description boxes, give your new map a title and enter a description about your map.
  4. Select Public to have your map freely available on the web or select Unlisted to have it private.

To add photos

  1. Select the appropriate placemark (i.e. line, shape), and an info window will appear.
  2. Click on Edit HTML.
  3. Paste the following code into the info window: <img src="" width="150">
  4. Copy the URL of the image that you want to use. Paste the URL in between the quotation marks "" in the img code. For example, <img src="THE URL GOES HERE"width="150">
  5. To add content below the image, use the paragraph marker <p> at the start of the text and the paragraph marker </p> at the end of the text. For example: <p>The arctic fox lives in the Alaskan Tundra.</p>
  6. After you are finished, click Save and then Done.
  7. Select Link to this page and copy the HTML.
  8. Go to your wiki and select Edit this Page.
  9. Click on the T.V. icon on the Editor tool bar.
  10. Click on Maps > Google Maps and paste the HTML in the box.
  11. Select Save.
